Cracker Lake

Region: Glacier

Distance: 21 km (return)

Elevation gain: 380 m or 1250 feet

Rating: Park trail

Estimated hiking time: 6 hours

Description: A trail hike to a turquoise-blue lake surrounded by cliffs. Starting from
behind the Many Glacier hotel, the trail passes Grosvenor Pond and the head of Lake
Sherburne before beginning its climb up the Canyon Creek drainage. Allen Mountain lies to the west and Wynn Mountain to the east. In the summer months, this trail gets quite a bit of horse traffic. At the 6 km mark, the trail crosses to the east side of Canyon Creek and then climbs steadily above the creek and the lake. Finally, the trail descends near the head of Cracker Lake to end at the site of abandoned mining works from the 1890’s. Return the same way. Documentation required for border crossing.
