Turtle Mountain

Region: Castle

Distance: 6 km (return)

Elevation gain: 800 m or 2600 feet

Rating: Unofficial trail, well-used

Estimated hiking time: 5 hours

Description: A popular hike to an iconic mountain in the Crowsnest area. The trailhead is easily seen when exiting the highway from Blairmore, but only accessed by driving through a residential area. The hike is steep from the beginning, following the ridge all the way up. The main trail just goes to the first summit, but further exploration to a second summit and the saddle between them is possible, depending on conditions, scrambling ability and ambition. Return the same way.
